ACIP: HHS has moved to restore the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) by renewing its charter with changes that would allow Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to appoint new members.

Mental Health: New Jersey is opening its first crisis stabilization center as part of its 988 response system, offering a 24-hour alternative to emergency rooms for individuals experiencing mental health or substance use crises, similar to those in Arizona and Texas. This model reflects a shift toward dedicated crisis infrastructure and  improving care continuity.

Peptides: The FDA is expected to allow compounding pharmacies to produce certain injectable peptides that were previously restricted due to safety concerns and limited supporting clinical evidence.

Reproductive Health: The Trump Administration is proposing a change for the Title X planning program that shifts emphasis away from contraception and toward fertility awareness and pregnancy support, beginning in 2027. The changes may influence which providers participate and impact access to services for  patients.

In a recent JAMA Health Forum article, Dr. Scott Gottlieb and Maarika Kimbrell discuss the FDA’s emerging framework for individualized genetic therapies, outlining how new regulatory pathways could support treatments tailored to single patients or small populations with rare diseases.

“The FDA’s new draft policy aims to create a pathway in which personalized genetic therapies can advance with far less friction from the laboratory to the clinic and, ultimately, the market. The efficiency of this framework depends on the FDA continuing to refine its requirements for platform approval by broadening the established scope of permissible personalization. These steps will build on the agency’s recent efforts to enable more children to benefit from the molecular tools now within reach.”

Data Watch

A recent Urban Institute analysis projects that new Medicaid work requirements and six-month eligibility checks, which take effect January 2027, could reduce expansion enrollment by 4.9 to 10.1 million people (27–55%) by 2028.
