Local conversations about gun violence spiked this week after news spread statewide that a Grand Haven father reportedly shot and killed his wife and six children before dying by suicide last week.

In response, many Michigan social media users expressed sadness and concern about gun violence, particularly within families. Some encouraged people experiencing intimate partner violence or emotional distress to seek help, emphasizing that support is available before a crisis becomes life-threatening.

This is a developing story, and community members’ questions and concerns may change as new information becomes available. Right now, people may be looking for more information about resources that can help prevent gun violence—like Extreme Risk Protection Orders—and how to support someone experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Share the graphics and resources below to answer questions, connect people with support, and promote tools that can help prevent future gun violence.
